Those of us who love pets, know that a holiday can turn into a problem when deciding where to go, because you have to think about thousands of issues before deciding whether to take them or not. For you not to get stressed and better start preparing your suitcase and your pet’s, we will give you some useful information for the both of you to have fun in Rome.

Before you buy the tickets you should know that pets require health permits to go abroad. Perhaps it would be a good idea to take it to your vet to see if it needs to have any vaccinations and get a certificate to present it to the relevant authorities. To all pets from the European Union, Italy requires identification by a tattoo or a microchip located somewhere clearly visible. It is also critical that its EU passport is having registered the rabies vaccination (which is required to move it anywhere in the world).

If you have decided to travel by plane, ask your airline what are the specific rules and requirements for pets’ transportation, as each airline has their own regulations for this type of passenger. Most of them accept small pets in cabin, if they don’t exceed 10 kilos weight. If heavier, it should travel comfortably in pressurized cabins and in special cages.

For your arrival to be perfect, with no problems transporting your bags to the city, you should choose a good transport agency that allows you to travel with your pet, we recommend you to check faciletaxi.com, which has all kinds of transport and its staff speak several languages.

To get around the city, we recommend you to do it by foot because it is the only way to get to know every corner of it, besides, your pet will enjoy the extra exercise while stretching its limbs. The Romans love dogs, we must remember that they were as good at hunting as the Greeks and were always accompanied by dogs, therefore, they are part of its history. Even the beach Bau Beach, on the Roman coast, 38 km from the Italian capital, encourages visitors to bring their dogs and offers food for them as well as small umbrellas for them not to get sunburn.

Many restaurants and cafes are suitable to receive pets; one of those is Cul de Sac at Piazza Pasquino 73. It is a moderately priced entertained restaurant, you can spend an average € 28 per person there and it specializes in international cuisine.

If you like meat, you can go to The Library Bistro, in Vicolo della Cancelleria 13. It offers an intimate dinner environment with romantic lights and very good wines. Although it is not that cheap, it’s a very nice place to start an evening.

Take your pet shopping at Cani e Gatti in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II there you will find the latest fashion for them as well as cute toys.

Doom metal is one of the most popular genres of rock today. The beginning of this genre was born with the first formation of Black Sabbath, parents of the heavy metal movement. The sound of Black Sabbath is mainly blues riffs with cadences, taken to extremes of volume and distortion, with a much more slow or distancing time beat between riff and riff. Thus, listening to Black Sabbath is like listening to a stampede of energetic elephants all covered in psychedelic acid that approaches you. Other important English doom bands are Pagan Altar and Witchfinder General. In the United States, you have Pentagram, Saint Vitus and Trouble. From Sweden, Candlemass and Count Raven. The genus is now more than forty years old and has multiple variants.

However, in times like these all the metal paraphernalia is laughable and at times boring. Tales of darkness, the devil and forces of evil, seem drawn from children’s stories or bad storybooks. The aesthetics of the metal has reached a point of decline. There are many experimental bands of psychedelic rock or heavy metal betting on ritualistic symbols, paganism obsolete in the era of modern technology. Much of the ideology of metal, is based on people like Lovecraft and Anton LaVey. The first being the writer of grim and mysterious stories , the second being one of the Satanist church founding fathers. Both proposals are extremely poor to understand the current situation. In a time where the real “evil” is the” capital”, corporations and abuse of power, aesthetic escapists like these only serve to confuse or become the placebo of inequality, taming the inconsistency of young rockers. We must not forget that one of the main tools of activism that global youth has is music. Close our eyes to the real world to bet on absurd mystical or cosmic stories, will not get us out of the crisis nor political authoritarianism.

The Stoned Hand of Doom festival brings together the most important of stoner and doom bands in Italy, among these are Doomraiser, L’Impero Delle Ombre, El-Thule, Gandhi’s Gunn, Marmoori Funeral, Black Capricorn, Charon and The Wisdoom. As headliners, the well known band Orange Goblin from London. This hard rock date is on Saturday 19th of May in the Init Club of Rome. If you want to discover more of the new bands of doom and similar proposals, this festival is for you. If you are discovering the genre, nothing beats going to Rome and attend this day of heavy riffs and smoky psychedelic atmosphere.

Sushi is one of the most iconic dishes of Japanese cuisine. In the era of globalization, there is no longer needed to travel to the other end of the world to eat exotic Nipponese dishes. In every city in the world there are specialty restaurants that offer their clients these dishes based on rice and fish mainly. In the city of Rome, a good place to eat sushi is Hobo ArtClub. In this place we can get Sushiscemo, which is sushi without refinement, without sophisticated ingredients and no frills, just sushi. The innovative offer that we can find in this interesting restaurant is very attractive, a glass of wine, plus a plate of six units of mixed sushi (fish, salmon, sardines, lumpfish roes, shrimps or vegetarian) for 7 €.

In Italy, the snack time is very typical, although the schedule is far from resembling to the Spanish one. After 18:00 and until 20:30 is the time when the Italians go out in search of their favorite places to enjoy their snacks. Traditionally, their typical snacks consist of sausages as mortadella, salami, carpaccio, olives and anchovies in vinegar, among many others. It is more or less the Spanish equivalent of tapas accompanied by a glass of wine, vermouth or beer. Hobo ArtClub, keeping its distinguished style, escapes from the conventional and surprises us with this new offering. It’s hard to past the restaurant, not noticing its “subtle” advertising. Every day the main window is painted with the offer of the day.

Hobo ArtClub is becoming one of the most popular places in Rome. The interior is a far from a regular bar or restaurant. Its walls are full of books and musical scores available for all customers. Its vaulted ceiling and stonewalls create a truly special environment. The feeling of eating in a library is already strange enough, however it could be even stranger if we consider that there is constant live music. There are also photography exhibitions; book readings and even radio programs broadcasted live.

Hobo ArtClub’s schedule is from 18:00 until 02:00 at night during weekdays and on weekends from 13:00 until 02:00. A good place for a snack, lunch, gourmet dinner or just a drink in a special environment, surrounded by good friends.

The restaurant is located in one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Rome, Pigneto and more specifically in the vía Ascoli Piceno 7. You can learn more about them on their Facebook page or web http://hoboartclub.wordpress.com/

Rome, the eternal city, has countless monuments and sights, to the point that it is impossible to visit it in one day. You should, at least stay a week if you want to enjoy and get to know well the city. If that’s your plan, we recommend renting apartments in Rome Having the whole house for you and your family is the closest thing to being at home, but in another city.

Film-loving travellers, especially those who love horror movies, have a place they must visit when in Rome, the museum-shop Profondo Rosso (Deep Red), a place dedicated especially to horror and crime genres.

Close to The Vatican we can find this small and terrifying place that the Italian film director Dario Argento opened in 1989, along with the director Luigi Cozzi (Alien Contamination, Starcrash). Argento is considered as the master of horror films in Italy for having directed films such as The Phantom of the Opera, Creepers, Suspiria and Deep Red, the latter being where the museum name came from.

The ground floor of the place is the Profondo Rosso shop, where you can find books of film, history, archeology and UFOs as well as t-shirts, DVDs, film scripts, puppets and all sorts of merchandising related to horror, fantasy, science fiction, crime and mystery. Also, you can buy reproductions of some of the costumes used in Argento’s films. However, the most important thing is that the place has become a meeting point for lovers of these genres, where they can talk, share idea and buy cult items. Some of its illustrious visitors have been Tim Burton, Alice Cooper, Brian Yuzna (Society), Ruggero Deodate (Cannibal Holocaust) and Eli Roth (Hostel I and II), and both Argento and Cozzi are usually in the shop. If you wish to buy an item but you’re travelling light, you can do it from their website http://www.profondorossostore.com/catalog/index.php a great option to be able to buy your objects of desire if you’re not in Rome.

In the basement, to give it a creepier atmosphere, there’s the museum called Gallery of Horrors. For a small price, you can go on a fun and terrifying trip around the universe of horror created by Argento, where you can see the original items used in his films. During the whole visit, which begins with a scene of Creepers, you will be guided by a spooky voice. You will the the most famous sets of his films such as The Phantom of the Opera as well as the monsters from Creepers and the murderer from Deep Red. They also have legendary characters there such as Darth Vader, Freddy Krueger or the Loch Ness monster.

Address: Via dei Gracchi 260 (Metro, A Line, Lepanto)

Opening hours: Mon-Sat from 10am-1pm and from 4pm-7.30pm. Closed on Sundays and holidays (museum and shop).

Ticket prices: Museum entry 3€. You buy it in the shop.

Tintoretto (1518-1594), whose real name was Jacopo Comin, was born and died in the land where he left his legacy, which was known in the 16th century as the Republic of Venice. A painter of great energy and determination, he was so passionate and impetuous about his work that he was dubbed Il Furiosa. He is considered one of the main precursors of Baroque art. Although Titian was one of his teachers, it seems that they did not have a particularly good relationship. Tintoretto means little dyer, or dyer’s son, a nickname that was attributed to him because his father was a dyer.

Obsessed with his work, he was very prolific, completing more than 300 works. He created notable works for the School of San Marcos, the School and the Church of San Roque and the Ducal Palace, all of which are in Venice.

He was interested in the Mannerist trends, passionate about human anatomy, an admirer of Miguel Angel, and he marveled at the optical effects of light. He was also able to work on canvas as well as in frescoes.

He is the only major artist of 16th-century Italian painting that had not recently had a significant, monographic exhibition devoted to his work in Italy, not counting the portrait exhibition that took place in Venice in 1994 and the one dedicated to all of his work in 1937. One of the difficulties encountered in putting together an exhibition of this kind is that many of his Venetian works are very large-scale. In addition, many of his works are frescoes that the painter completed in various churches and palaces throughout Venice.

The exhibition now being hosted by the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome is a grand show of the work by this 16th-century Italian Renaissance master. It is based on three fundamental issues in the painting of the artist: religion, mythology, and portraiture.

The show opens with the first known self-portrait of the painter, which is from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and ends with the last attributable work, which was lent by the Louvre in Paris.

Other examples of the wondrous works one can admire in the exhibition are the “Miracle of the Slave”, which was painted in 1548 and established his importance in the Venetian art scene. One can also enjoy the series “Mythological Scene”, “Apollo and Daphne”, “Santa Maria Egyptian”, “Susanna and the Elders”, “Stealing the Body of Saint Mark”, “The Last Supper”, and “The Deposition” of 1594, which is considered the last work the artist completed before his death.

As one moves from room to room admiring the 40 paintings in the exhibition, which are borrowed from museums and collections around the world, there are texts about the artist by the writer Melania Mazzucco, an expert on the great protagonist of this monograph. The exhibition was curated by Professor Vittorio Sgarbi. It will be on view until June 10.

If it comes to traveling in winter, waxing is not an alarming necessity. Before getting waxed, have clear in mind the destination you are going to and if it really worth doing it. On hair removal there are many myths and tastes. For example, some people don’t like removing their pubic hair, not only because they consider it sexy, but also because a “political statement”, a way of showing that the modern styles dedicated to please men are not important. For these reasons, many women do not shave their armpits or legs, allowing the course of nature to decorate them with long hair all over their bodies. Others prefer to shave with with sensuous forms to stimulate their couple.

On the other hand, if you are a man, hair removal becomes an additional detail of the background. Today and far more often, guys prefer to shave their genitals to have a much more attractive appearance as well as for hygienic reasons. There is of course the urban myth that shaving the area of the penis and testicles makes gentlemen appear to have some extra inches and therefore have greater confidence about penis size. It is true however, that when women and men have shaved their genital area, sexual contact can be much more pleasant, allowing the skin of both of them to make more contact.

Armpits and chest’s hair in men is usually related to physical activity, if you do weight training or bodybuilding, muscles look much better when shaving hair. Also, note that if you like swimming, having less body hair lets you swim slightly faster, which is why professional swimmers are always very well shaved. A counterpart of what one thinks, pubic hair in men as in women, have a protective function for the genitals. If you decide to shave completely in these areas, consider using a moisturizer or cooling cream to avoid irritation.

If you need to bring a waxing kit for your next trip, don’t forget in the first instance a suitable wax for your legs in a slight jar to allow transport in the suitcase without causing greater weight or taking up too much space. Also, if necessary, you can also bring special razors that can take you out of trouble if the preparation of hot wax at home or at the destination to which you head becomes uncomfortable. Use creams with aloe vera to shave, and after-shave moisturizer. Do not hesitate to buy an expense one. The skin is the body’s largest organ and as such, deserves great care and dedication.

The traveller has arrived in the Eternal City. The baroque monumentality of the palaces, squares and churches is overwhelming. The Forum, the Colosseum and the few ruins of what used to be the biggest empire on Earth question him. He visits the Vatican if he’s religious and listens to mass. He walks around the busy streets, deals with the infernal and noisy traffic jams.

He samples their typical delicious cuisine. If this doesn’t seem enough for the traveller, Rome holds a lot more, more sensations, more culture and more art. The night arrives, the moon comes up (or not, depending on the season) and the terraces and the cafés light up. The stars invite one to rest, but the traveller wants to carry on. He can still make his soul vibrate and remember his stay many months or years later. At the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome with its concert programmes, choir mass and, of course, international operas, he’ll find a perfect reason to go to the theatre without the downsides of the theatre. With an opera we won’t need any translators as long as we’re fans of it and we can follow the plot.

Teatro dell’Opera in Rome

Perhaps the tremendously rationalist façade, when this trend had not yet flourished, will not appeal to the traveller but, once inside, he can reconcile with the minimalist architecture of pure lines that this place has, without a single gratuitous ornament. The open room in the shape of a horseshoe was especially conceived so that the voices, the notes and the sound flooded it. And that, dear music-loving traveller, is something to be grateful for.

And it’s here from the 18th to the 26th of April where the representation of the two-act opera buffa ‘The Barber of Seville’, composed by Gioacchino Rossini in 1816, will be taking place. The practical details of the timetables and ticket purchase can be found on this website: http://www.operaroma.it/stagione/stagione_2011_2012/il_barbiere_di_siviglia

The Barber of Seville

An opera buffa distinguishes itself from the tragic ones because as well as having a happy ending (without violent deaths), the whole argument is in played out in a certain comedy tone, ironic even, with no lack of critical points towards certain human faults or vices.

‘The Barber or Seville’ celebrates the triumph of romantic love, because the protagonists end up, with deceptions, misunderstandings and gossip scenes, consummating their love with marriage. Thanks to the factotum Figaro, the young orphan Rosina manages to get rid of her old uncle and tutor who wants to marry her, despite being various decades older than her. The young, dashing and seductive Count Almaviva manages to get the love (in all the possible ways) of Rosina thanks to Figaro’s astuteness.

As a slight reminder, even though the music lovers already know, the opening of this famous opera has not only been used for advertising campaigns but also as a separate concert piece, being part of collections that are suitable for all types of crowd.

Art is always conditioned by the economies and political routes around it. It is no wonder that today many collections of contemporary art of various museums focus for example on Eastern Europe or Latin America, or seek or approach to portray the Arab culture from different angles. Discourses on feminism and post colonialism, looking into the eyes of those countries or regions previously relegated to understand closely the parallel artistic processes and its “status quo” of European and American art at first instance is their goal. The interest of economy, or when we talk about countries like China for example, or those who after the fall of the wall become old ideological pockets of resistance, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia.

The sample can be seen in the Palazzo delle Esposizioni presents us the positioning at the top of the arts of the United States during an important period in the history of the country, and which intersects with the end of World War II, the apprentice of the Cold War and of course, Ronald Reagan’s entry into power and the re-institution of Republican conservatism in the eighties. Economic development after the war formed the turmoil which was characteristic of the revolutionary years of the 60′s and the full insertion of the neoliberal model in the world are translatable to the Guggenheim collection focused on the United States. Nothing better to explore a contemporary art exhibition today to understand about the processes involved in business and the art world and its strong ties to politics.

Thus, the exhibition notes the consolidation of New York City as a center of imperative modern contemporary art. The postwar and prosperity, and the decades of the 60′s and 70′s laced with social unrest, contributing to various practices that arise between abstract expressionism, conceptual art and minimal art pop and photo-realism, as well as new forms of performances, installations, architecture and video art, etc… While all these currents had different formats and mechanism representations, they all had in common the challenge of their own modes of production and the importance of art.

Of course, the sample highlights the importance of R. Solomon Guggenheim and the hard work performed to support these artists and preserve their work. The works on display this time at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni come primarily from the permanent collection of the Guggenheim in New York and some of the locations of Bilbao and Venice, paintings, sculptures, photographs and installations and other formats, await you in the Palazzo Delle Esposizioni in Rome until the 7 of May. For more information on this important exhibition, visit the following website: http://www.palazzoesposizioni.it/

Even though it’s hard to believe, pizza originates from ancient Greece. At that time, the Greeks covered bread with oil, cheese and herbs. With wars, trips and conquests, this dish spread all over the Mediterranean and Europe. In Turkey, it’s known as pide and in Bulgaria and Croatia as pita. However, the Romans were those who began to elaborate what would be the pizza dough that we know today, which then had cheese and honey as main ingredients, with a slight taste of bay leaf. And so, with time, they added the cheese and tomato to the dough and they decorated it with bay leaves, the colours that today are part of the Italian flag.

Generally, pizzas are made in brick or stone ovens and some even use wood ovens, which give the pizza an even more delicate touch, or barbecue grills. The dough, generally, has many textures once it’s prepared, depending on the region, district or restaurant that offers the dish. In Rome, you can find different types of this dish but, generally, the pizza dough is light and thin. In Italy, eating a pizza is like eating a snack, something light between meals.

Since pizza is a traditional dish, there are many different types of presenting it and including all sorts of ingredients in it. Every pizza is a different experience depending on the time of year that it’s prepared in and the ingredients that are used, which, of course, it’s recommended to use always the freshest ones. The secret of a good dough is making it yourself, of course, and giving it the personal touch that will make it different. To make a good dough, place some flour with the shape of a volcano with a hole in the middle on the surface, then pour some yeast dissolved in lukewarm water and a bit of salt and start to make the dough. If you don’t like crunchy dough, just pour some milk and don’t stop making it until the dough is consistent.

The most important secret is not to use too much water, no more than a small glass. Keep making the dough strongly and you’ll see the results. Once the dough is settled, put it on a tray and cover it with a cloth and leave it for a few hours in a warm place. After, with the rolling pin, extend the dough and make a circular shape, add the ingredients, the tomato sauce and put it in the oven. Preferably, put the dough in a tray with a bit of olive oil before it goes in the oven.

The resounding success of Instagram (with more than 30,000,000 users and that’s a lot of people) in just a few months, demonstrates the commercial strength of innovation (when it works and provides answers to consumer needs) in the field of computing. But what is Instagram? In essence, a free application to take pictures electronically as if you were using a conventional camera with film, those that only the very professional use. The project is only available for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad, but inventors and engineers of Instagram promise a version for Android soon.

Okay, aside from the success of Internet users and Internet addicts, what else does it offer? Well, it has positioned itself in the world as the ultimate network to share and spread our pictures, because you can post them on Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and atthe Instagram community. The promoters of the initiative do not refer to Pinterest, perhaps because it is virtually a social network, but presumably, being photographs and since Pinterest is directed to post images (both still and motion) you can post on this social site.

Instagram has broad applications and you can edit your photos giving them a special touch, such as black and white, sepia, fish-eye as well as many others, that is, with patience and a bit of aesthetic sense, you can share your pictures with a professional look that was achieved only with traditional equipment in the past along with all with the ease of transmission through social networks without using additional devices .

Although the application is already common for professional photographers, filmmakers and image researchers of all possible disciplines (we can not forget that it can be an effective tool in the development of advertising) in this short space of time it already has its critics. There is always someone who will announce doomsday if such a thing is abused or misuded, but, with permission of the reader and if I can share an entirely subjective opinion, the detractor is always someone with fear of change, lazy when it comes to innovation and continued learning, an ultraconservative that will not allow change in their status quo

Despite Instagram’s young age, it has its good community of fans and followers. For example, in Rome, as in other Western and Asian cities, they are gathering around a traditional blog: http://www.meetup.com/Instagram/Roma-IT/. There they share concerns, ask questions, hang out and comment on photos, organize Meetups and allow artwork, or merely amateur documentary to be advertised with all the strength that Internet gives. Because this is what the network without doubt has done: democratize all the tools and make them available to any necessary platforms so that individual work is known beyond meager local boundaries
